Route and road conditions
The main route is NH10 via Sevoke, Teesta Bazaar, Melli, Rangpo (the Sikkim border) and Singtam. It follows the Teesta river for most of the way.
NH10 is sometimes closed or slowed by landslides, especially from June to September. Drivers then take alternative hill roads via Kalimpong or Lava, which can add several hours. We check the road status on the morning of your trip.
Foreign nationals stop at Rangpo to get or show their Restricted Area Permit for Sikkim.
